Abermaw - or Barmouth to me and you!

Abermaw is the Welsh name for Barmouth. Located in the historic county of Merionethshire, the Welsh form of the name is derived from aber and the river's name, "Mawddach". It's about a 45 minute drive along the coastal road from Swn y Mor. Driving through Criccieth, Porthmadog and Harlech to name but a few places to stop off along the way to explore. We recently took a drive and ended up by the old railway bridge across the estuary. Its well worth a stroll across to the other side just to take in the breathtaking views. You can walk to Fairbourne (about an hour) or just enjoy a stroll around the beach on the other side and then amble back.

Barmouth is renowed for its funfair, fish and chip shops and sandy beach, but away from the main drag, there are some interesting shops and cafes. Why not stop at the Norbar for a meal, located about 2.5 miles north of Barmouth and on the way home.
